Onion News, or News from the Future?

18 July 2012

“It’s a morbid observation, but if everyone on earth just stopped breathing for an hour, the greenhouse effect would no longer be a problem.” –Newsweek Senior Writer Jerry Adler, 31 December 1990 issue.

They can’t force you to drive one, but they can tax you prohibitively if you don’t. Thanks again, Chief inJustice Roberts… (H/T: IMAO)

UPDATE: In IMAO’s comment section, FormerHostage wrote: “Yeah its The Onion but this is waaayyyy to close to that video the Global Warmers put out a while back that showed people who doubted Global Warning being blown up.” Here’s a link to that one, in case you’ve forgotten it.

Has Anyone Seen Al Gore Recently?

2 February 2012

I notice that they don’t name the perp, and that I haven’t seen the former VP in a while…

The Guardian – Climate change sceptics have acquired a new explanation for why glaciers are retreating: it’s not global warming, it’s theft. Police in Chile have arrested a man on suspicion of stealing five tonnes of ice from the Jorge Montt glacier in the Patagonia region to sell as designer ice cubes in bars and restaurants. … Scientists say Jorge Montt, part of the Bernardo O’Higgins national park, is retreating by half a mile a year, making it one of the world’s fastest shrinking glaciers. Environmentalists have cited it as evidence that man-made climate change is warming the planet. Sceptics have cited other explanations for retreating glaciers, but theft – until now – was not one of them. It may be the only case in which both sides agree human activity was to blame.

So it’s not CO2, it’s ice pirates that are shrinking the glaciers.

Impossible to Hide the Decline

11 October 2011

(H/T: The Weekly Standard)

Yid with Lid — …Great Britain, which just went through two record cold winters is in store for some more. Scientists are predicting that Britain may be facing a mini-ice age that may last for decades. It’s partly the fault of the La Nina weather pattern… The real cause for this prediction is the Sun. It has been emitting few ultra violet rays (not that you would know by looking at Snooki). …the news about the arctic ice cap may be just as depressing. So far it has been very cold in the arctic this fall, in fact it has been coldest autumn the arctic has seen in over a decade. Because of this cold the arctic has added a Manhattan-sized chunk of ice to the ice cap every 30 seconds for the last 30 days… As our President, the EPA and many other progressives work to slow down the economy with crippling regulations to reduce “greenhouse gasses,” it seems that mother earth does not want to cooperate. …

Carbon Credits for Corpses

5 October 2011

From Watts Up With That? we learn that a University of Toronto study (with an inappropriate photo) that “Herbivore populations will go down as temperatures go up.” (H/T: JCM) Well, that explains why wimpy liberal vegetarians are the people most likely to be frightened by global warming fairy tales.

Speaking of decreases in population, the end result of carbon trading is the same as the end result of every other socialist scheme: Mass killings.

GWPF — The reported killing of 23 Honduran farmers in a dispute with the owners of UN-accredited palm oil plantations in Honduras is forcing the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) executive board to reconsider its stakeholder consultation processes. … At issue are the reported murders of 23 local farmers who tried to recover land, which they say was illegally sold to big palm oil plantations, such as Grupo Dinant, in a country scarred by widespread human rights abuses. In July, a report by an International Fact Finding Mission was presented to the European Parliament’s Human Rights Sub-committee, alleging that 23 peasants, one journalist and his partner, had all been murdered in the Bajo Aguán region, between January 2010 and March 2011. The deaths were facilitated by the “direct involvement of private security guards from some of the local companies who are complicit with police and military officials,” the report said. In some cases it cited “feigned accidents” in which peasants were run over by security guards working for two named palm oil businessmen. In other cases, the farmers were simply shot, or “disappeared.” … carbon credits from the plantations can still be freely traded on the EU ETS, which allows polluters to offset their carbon emissions by nominally clean energy investments. … for now, business continues as usual in Aguán and the world’s carbon markets, despite the “systemic and grave human rights violations” noted by the IACHR report. “If this is really a direct consequence of Europe’s climate policies then I would like to send my sincere apologies to the people of Honduras,” [Green MEP] Bas Eickhout said. “The CDM is supposed to be offering environmental benefits and sustainable development but these kinds of stories are really terrible. I don’t want to hear them anymore.” (H/T: Soylent Green)

Someone just pointed out to me that similar things are happening in Africa as well. Looks like Al Gore’s AGW Hoax is competing with Barack Obama’s Fast and Furious program to see who can kill more foreigners.

Al is Gored Again

30 September 2011

Not only was Al Gore’s latest propaganda gambit watched by few but derided by many, he has once again been caught engaging in deliberate deceit and fraud to back up his moneymaking economybusting schemes: Al Gore doctored a video that’s supposed to prove his global warming theories (H/T: C2). The song and dance continues…

Yo, VP’s gonna kick it

Ice ice melting
Ice ice melting
All right stop collaborate and listen
Ice is melting and poles won’t glisten
Blowing carbon dioxide nightly
Holding my giant hockey stick tightly
Soon it won’t cool even in the fall
Turn off the lights to save us all
To the extreme I’m a prophet to the left wing
Though my massive jets my huge weight is hefting
Come listen to the speaker that bores
I’m washing your brain while your body snores
Deadly when I show Powerpoint slides
Everywhere that I think Manbearpig hides
You need to cut back while I’m gaining weight
Got a massive footprint on my blue plate
If there ain’t a problem I’ll invent it
Check out my book, with the fact I bent it

Ice ice melting
Al Gore says ice ice melting
Al Gore says ice ice melting
Al Gore says ice ice melting

The Witch and the Newt (He Didn’t Get Better)

This is all you need to know. Say “no” to Newt. (I remember this ad, and got the picture from Hookers and Booze.)

Wrong Then, Wrong Now

22 April 2011

I wouldn’t even know when Earth Day was if it weren’t for the mockery I see directed at it. But for a more factual take-down, see I Hate the Media’s “Fifteen Foolish Forecasts: How Did Environmentalists Get It So Wrong On Earth Day 1970?

What was once Earth Day has now morphed into Earth Hour and Earth Week. The success of the celebration can only be explained by the fact that no one ever bothers to go back to check the accuracy of the eco-wackos’ past predictions. For example, the predictions made at the first Earth Day in 1970 were wrong. No, wrong isn’t a strong enough word. They were spectacularly wrong. Let’s cover all the tenses and say they were wrong, they are wrong, and then make our own prediction and say they will be wrong in the future. Need proof? Here are some of the hilarious, remarkably wrong predictions made on Earth Day 1970.

Highway to Hell

20 March 2011

“The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” One has to wonder why people so willfully refuse to see where their intentions are leading… thus making it impossible for them to turn, slow down, or stop.

It’s All Fun And Games Until Gojira Arrives

18 March 2011

From Japan, in their own inimitable style, comes the video “Nuclear Boy” by media artist Kazuhiko Hachiya providing commentary on the status of the Fukushima nuclear reactor.

British columnist James Delingpole provides some numbers for comparison. (H/T: I Hate the Media)

Nuclear fatalities in the last ten years: 7
Wind farm fatalities in the last ten years: 44.

In those ten years nuclear provided thirty times the energy of wind. This means in the last decade, nuclear has been around 200 times safer than wind on an energy produced/accidents basis.

Soylent Green reminds us that Japan’s biggest worries right now are cholera, plague, and dysentery; not neutrons.

Radioactive

14 March 2011

Given all the panic and hyperbole in the media about the nuclear plants in Japan (I’m expecting CNN to report, with a straight face, the increased likelihood of Godzilla attacks caused by the radiation), here’s an explanation from someone who knows whereof he speaks:

I have been reading every news release on the incident since the earthquake. There has not been one single (!) report that was accurate and free of errors (and part of that problem is also a weakness in the Japanese crisis communication). By “not free of errors” I do not refer to tendentious anti-nuclear journalism – that is quite normal these days. By “not free of errors” I mean blatant errors regarding physics and natural law, as well as gross misinterpretation of facts, due to an obvious lack of fundamental and basic understanding of the way nuclear reactors are build and operated. I have read a 3 page report on CNN where every single paragraph contained an error. …
Josef Oehmen PhD., MIT

(H/T: Soylent Green, which also has another piece entitled “Because the Greens Will Further Demonize Nuclear Power” about different types of reactors, and why we should be using thorium for nuclear fuel.)

Update: Some Democrats want the USA to “put the brakes” on nuclear power. (H/T: C2) (more…)

Winter Wonderland

11 January 2011

Global warming went away because not enough of us believed in it and clapped our hands. Or is that Tinkerbell? I always get those two confused.

Oh the climate outside is frigid
But their doctrine remains rigid
So since they claimed the cold would go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

It doesn’t show signs of stopping
And the spinners’ heads are popping
Now the hidden decline will show
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

When we finally read your mail
How your numbers were jumbled and cooked
Your con job is doomed to fail
As the world learns the way they’ve been rooked

The hockey stick has gone flatter
And Al Gore keeps getting fatter
So until the sunspot count grows
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

(Apologies to Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne)

Global Warming: Fact, Fraud, or Fabulous?

18 December 2010

Today’s best headline ever comes from The Register: “Samoan Clerics Finger Homosexuals Over Global Warming”:

Clerics in the South Pacific have fingered the key cause of climate change – homosexuals. The revelation came at a conference at the University of the South Pacific considering the implications of Climate Change and Creativity.

I wonder if they suffered from the Gore Effect like the Cancun conference?

Academics were apparently thrown off their consideration of “Arts in the Age of Global Warming” and “Ecology in Poetry / Poetry in Ecology” by reports of Church Ministers who maintained that climate change in Samoa are clearly attributable to to homosexuals. …

Arts and poetry. Yeah, that’ll save the planet.

… Details of exactly how the ministers think homosexuals are pumping more CO2 into the atmosphere, thereby trapping heat around the planet, driving up the average temperature and causing massive economic and environmental dislocation are scant.

I’m going to guess that this is all a wacky sitcom misunderstanding, brought about when one of the clerics heard that some homosexuals are “flaming”. (more…)
