The Whole Gore-y Story

24 June 2010

There was some comedy and mockery, at least in the right-wing blogosphere, after the announcement that Al and Tipper Gore were planning to separate after forty years of marriage. Even though something very serious must have happened to allow Tipper enough motivation to achieve escape velocity from Al’s enormous mass, the rest of the world (particularly the MSM) accepted at face value the statement that the divorce was not in any way the result of any infidelity or cheating – even though some of us wondered why they’d be so quick as to rebut an accusation which nobody had made if there weren’t an underlying reason… But, since the Goracle is the beloved of the mainstream media, you would certainly not expect to see any speculation or actual reporting coming from them. After all, it’s not like he’s a Republican or anything. So, naturally, it was left to a media source with more integrity and credibility than the MSM – The National Enquirer – to break the news:

AL GORE has been accused of sexually attacking a masseuse in Portland, Oregon – and is named in the official police report about the alleged assault, The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively! The bombshell story will appear in the new issue of The ENQUIRER and will include the secret police documents, a photo of the woman making the stunning charges and will reveal the shocking details about the pants she saved as evidence!

Some were quick to discount or ignore the story, just as they did when the Enquirer broke the John Edwards story. However, the woman involved has recently spoken out about the 2006 incident (police report), which was reopened in 2009 (interviews and police report), so the Enquirer is vindicated again. (If only they could finally produce that love child of Elvis and Bigfoot.) It goes without saying that there had to be plenty of people in the media and in political circles who were fully aware of all this, and that it is only Nobel Prize Winner Al Gore’s prestige among the left-wing intelligentsia which has kept it a secret for so long. With Republicans, if a scandal like this doesn’t already exist, the MSM can sometimes be relied upon to make one up.

Never Let a Crisis Go to Waste

24 June 2010

Not only has Obama and his Democratic federal government done absolutely jack shit over the oil spill in the Gulf (apart from pointing the finger of blame in between endless White House parties and rounds of golf), but this latest news, coming after the Coast Guard stopped skimmers from sucking up oil, indicates that the administration is actively and deliberately preventing anyone else from minimizing or mitigating the disaster in the Gulf. Just as they have no intention of addressing the problems of illegal aliens without being allowed to turn millions of them into Democratic voters (i.e. “amnesty”), they also have no intention of allowing this crisis in the Gulf to go away without using it to push Cap And Trade and a host of other unpopular, unwanted, and unconstitutional schemes which otherwise would never see the light of day. Anyway, the latest travesty?

The federal government is shutting down the dredging that was being done to create protective sand berms in the Gulf of Mexico. The berms are meant to protect the Louisiana coastline from oil. But the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department has concerns about where the dredging is being done.

The government has had over two months to address this issue; either by building up the berms themselves, or by granting Louisiana permission to do so – along with directions, if need be, as to where the dredging is and isn’t permitted. Clearly, however, the administration has no intention of allowing skimming or dredging at all; and the consequences for fish and other wildlife (whom the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department is allegedly meant to protect) are going to be devastating. But hey, at least those oil-soaked pelicans will be able to trade carbon credits!

Free Speech for Me, But Not for Thee

2 June 2010

Apparently, some people think that the mayor of Bordentown, New Jersey really sucks. At least, that’s the philosophy behind an anonymous blog called bordentownmayorreallysucks.com (the domain name really says it all). I don’t know enough about Mayor James E. Lynch Jr. to quantify exactly how much he sucks (he’s not important enough to have his own page on WikiPedia, at least), but he’s certainly lacking in a sense of humor, a sense of perspective, common sense, and who knows what else; because he’s trying to shut the blog down. (H/T: ZDnet Government)

…Mayor Lynch was so upset about the Web site that he managed to pass a town council resolution (which passed 2-1…) demanding the Web site be shut down. Not only does the resolution demand Bluehost (the Web site owner’s ISP) take down the site, it also calls for hiring a special attorney to go after the site owners. …

Predictably, all Major Lynch is accomplishing is to give the web site more traffic and more publicity. People across the state (and beyond) are hearing about how this mayor “really sucks”; and the drive to censor the free speech of constituents who disagree with him certainly isn’t helping his public image. (And even if the blog is forced to come down, it’ll still live on forever in the other sites that mention it, and the archives at Google.) Of course, this being New Joisey, the anonymous blogger is lucky that the mayor isn’t just putting a hit out on him. (Or a fatwa!)

As amusing as this is, and it certainly is amusing – at least, when acted out on a small-town stage – it’s also a chilling example of authority figures who will brook no dissension or criticism (or anything that contradicts their narrative) from “the little people”. You know, the great unwashed; the ones who need to sit down, shut up, and keep paying our taxes and re-electing our incumbents. It’s an attitude which is held by far too many people, and not just on one side of the political spectrum – the McCain-Feingold Bipartisan “Campaign Reform” Act is just one reason (of many) why I did not, do not, and never will support or speak kindly of the political career of John McCain. The current (Democratic) leadership is full of it (and I mean “full of it” in every possible colloquial manner). The President avoids answering questions as much as possible, attacks any in the media who don’t hew to the party line, and has criticized people for watching “the wrong news channel”. PJTV’s Andrew Klavan expands on this, and concludes:

“Watch for that Fairness Doctrine. Beware of Net Neutrality. Pay attention to the ways that the liberal mainstream news media distort, mock, insult, and exclude the conservative opposition. Listen to the people they don’t want you to listen to. And whatever you do… don’t shut up.”
