We Will Find Your Bribe

18 March 2010

Senator Tom Coburn, MD (R-OK) warned House Democrats today: “We will find out and out you if you sell your vote.” (H/T: Gateway Pundit)

I want to send a couple of messages to my colleagues in the House. If you voted “no” [in November] and you vote “yes” and you lose your election, and you think any nomination to a federal position isn’t going to be held in the Senate, I’ve got news for you: It’s gonna be held. Number two is if you get a deal, a parochial deal for you or your district, I’ve already instructed my staff and the staff of seven other senators that we will look at every appropriations bill, at every level, at every incidence, and we will outline it by district; and, we will associate that with the buying of your vote. So, if you think you can cut a deal now and it not come out until after the election, I want to tell you that isn’t gonna happen. And, be prepared to defend selling your vote in the House.

Shocka! Allah is a Zionist

Sheikh Abdul Hadi Palazzi, secretary general of the Italian Muslim Assembly, presents the Quranic argument for Jewish sovereignty in the land of Israel (H/T: WriterMom); first, for Jewish sovereignty in Jerusalem:

In August 2002, the Yasser Arafat-appointed “mufti of Jerusalem and the Holy Land,” Ikrima Sabri, told the Western media that “there is not even the smallest indication of the existence of a Jewish temple in Jerusalem in the past. In the whole city, there is not even a single stone indicating Jewish history.” … In making such statements, Sabri and Arafat not only blatantly denied history, archeology, and the teachings of the Bible, but they also denied the words of the Quran. From the time of the Revelation of the Noble Quran until recently, all Muslims unanimously accepted that the Haram as-Sharif, or Holy Esplanade, on which the Dome of the Rock today stands is the same place where Solomon’s and Zorobabel’s Temples once stood. As a matter of fact, Haram as-Sharif, the Sacred Area of Temple Mount, includes a place called Solomon’s Standpoint, or Maqam Sulayman … Accepting that Solomon’s Temple was in Jerusalem is compulsory for every Muslim believer, because that is what the Quran and the Islamic oral tradition, called the Sunnah, teach. In the Quran, Surah Bani Isra’il (the Chapter of the Children of Israel), verses 1-7, we find a description of Solomon’s Temple and of how it was destroyed twice by the enemies of the Jewish people… Not only were Arafat’s minions and heirs in Jerusalem attempting to rewrite the history of Arabs and Jews in the region as told by others; they were also attempting to rewrite the history of Arabs and Jews in the region as told by Islamic Arab sources, too.

Two-Dimensional Beats One-Dimensional

18 March 2010

Don Sorber, looking at the February prime time rankings, points out that FOX News came in at #2, MSNBC at #26, and CNN at #32. Cartoon Network, at #13, beat both CNN and MSNBC by a large margin. According to Glenn Reynolds, it’s because Cartoon Network “has more believable characters” (a sentiment that is echoed by most of Sorber’s commenters: “[Who] are you going to believe – Keith Olbermann or a talking dog? The dog, of course.”)

Here It Comes

Veteran’s Today— “US Tells Israel: “You are undermining America, endangering troops.”

Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Clinton and Joint Chief’s Chairman Mike Mullen have all recently visited Israel on two issues, reliable information that Israel was planning an attack on Iran, a plan designed to push America into a war our leaders believe is both wrong and likely to risk a global nuclear confrontation with Russia and the building of a massive housing project on the Arab side of Jerusalem in violation of numerous agreements, a project that is likely to cause a spike in world terrorism and send thousands of new fighters to Afghanistan to face American forces there. This is the worst point in the history of the relationship between the U.S. and Israel since the founding of that nation in 1948 but these are not the only reasons, not these and the arrogant and intractable attitude of Israel’s leaders nor being caught in lie after lie, lies told to their financial backer and closest ally, the United States. … Unofficially, Israel has moved to the top of America’s “terrorist watch list” and is now drifting toward “evildoer” status, not only by the White House but, more broadly, through top defense officials who now perceive Israel as a threat to the United States.

We knew it was coming, we said it was coming, and we were called liars and racists. Well, there goes Israel, under Obama’s bus. Isn’t it about damned time for the Jewish love affair with the Democratic Party to end? (H/T: Buster Voodoo on the Outraged Spleen of Zion and New Class Traitor)

Summing It Up

17 March 2010

I got this excellent summary of Obamacare from Dirk Diggler on C2:

[Obamacare] is a health insurance plan written by a committee whose Chairman has publicly stated that he doesn’t understand it, passed by a Congress that has literally not read it but yet has made damn certain to exempt themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also has not read it, with funding administered by a treasury secretary who cheated on his income taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that is $14 Trillion in debt to begin with and adding $2 Trillion a year more in red ink per year BEFORE this bill adds even more red ink to it. And it will be delivered to you by a House of “Representatives” that won’t even actually vote on it, headed by a Speaker who is on record saying that they’ll have to, “pass it to see what’s in it.”

Doesn’t include the extortion, bribes, and other dirty deals; but it’s a good starting point.

DA Bears

17 March 2010

From (H/T: Hot Air) comes this story: “Could Airborne Bears Catch Bin Laden?”

That’s one suggestion the Pentagon has received from someone who noted, quite correctly, that a bear’s sense of smell is much more powerful than a bloodhound’s. “Overnight, Parachute some bears into areas [bin Laden] might be,” the innovator wrote. “Attempt to train bears to take off parachutes after landing, or use parachutes that self-destruct after landing.” The bears-in-the-air idea, and scores of others, came from people who clicked on the “contact us” button on the Defense Department’s Web site, which allows the general public to ask questions or make suggestions. …

Flashback: Obama Offers Biden Bribe

16 March 2010

While reading about the alleged bribery (offering of positions in the Obama administration) of two congressional candidates by the White House, I remembered that I had read about something similar before.

Appearing on Oprah Winfrey’s show this afternoon, Jill Biden, wife of Vice-President elect Joe Biden, made a verbal gaffe that could land the Obama Administration in some hot water. Mrs. Biden let slip that her husband Joe was offered a choice of either the Secretary of State’s position or the Vice-Presidency. The potential problem for the Obama Administration goes far beyond the obviously embarrassing revelation that Hillary Clinton was actually the second choice for Secretary of State, however. Promising an appointment to a federal office by a candidate in exchange for support is a crime. Title 18 chapter 29 section 599 of the United States code is very specific about such promises, and the punishment that goes along with making them [Hat tip: RedState].

“Whoever, being a candidate, directly or indirectly promises or pledges the appointment, or the use of his influence or support for the appointment of any person to any public or private position or employment, for the purpose of procuring support in his candidacy shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if the violation was willful, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.”

If Jill Biden is telling the truth, and from Joe Biden’s reaction, quickly shushing her, she apparently is, somebody in the Obama campaign has some questions to answer. Who offered Biden the positions of Secretary of State or Vice-President? Did Barack Obama know about the offer or make it himself? There is almost no chance that this verbal slip will cause anything but embarrassment for President-elect Barack Obama and the incoming administration. But the Vice-President clearly did not want the information to come out. Whether that was because he didn’t want to deal with an angry Hillary Clinton or because he didn’t want to give Republicans ammunition with which to try and distract the new Administration in its first days in office is unclear. But despite all the laughing that the audience, Oprah Winfrey, and the Bidens did at Mrs. Biden’s faux pas, breaking federal law is no laughing matter.

Obviously, this incident was never investigated (or even widely reported on by the MSM); but if the attempted bribery of Sestak and Romanoff ever gets investigated (by a Republican Congress in 2011?) the investigators may want to look into this as well.

Making a Federal Case Out of It?

16 March 2010

According to The American Spectator, “Specter Opens Door on White House Felonies”. (H/T: HillBuzz)

February 18, 2010 – Philadelphia TV anchor Larry Kane reports that on his just taped Comcast show, he had asked Democratic Congressman Joe Sestak, who is challenging incumbent Senator Arlen Specter whether it was true that the Obama administration had offered Sestak a job if he would withdraw from his primary challenge to Specter. Sestak answers “yes,” specifically saying the offer came from someone in the White House and that he, Sestak, turned down the offer. Sestak refuses to name who it was that made the offer. Two hours later, Kane calls the White House, plays them the tape, and asks for comment. The White House never calls him back.

To offer jobs for favors is in fact a federal crime, which was alleged to have occurred by both Rep. Sestak and Andrew Romanoff (to not run against Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado). Failure to report those crimes is also a felony; and as the Obama administration is currently stonewalling and refusing to answer inquiries on the matter, anybody in the White House who knows anything about these offers is also facing possible prison time. The Justice Department, under Eric Holder, has absolutely no intention of investigating this matter (read the article for a lot more details, along with parallels to the Watergate and Iron-Contra coverups), nor is their likely to be any real investigation in Congress as long as the Democrats overwhelmingly control both houses.

Still, Senator Specter (former Philadelphia district attorney and chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee), who is facing a primary challenge from Joe Sestak, has been willing to discuss it:

“That’s a very, very serious charge. It’s a big black smear without the specifications. But I’m telling you it is a federal crime punishable by jail, and anybody who wants to say that ought to back it up. … There’s a crime called misprision of a felony. Misprision of a felony is when you don’t report a crime. So you’re getting into pretty deep areas here in these considerations.”

Again, although the Obama White House is being pressed for answers by the media (OK, just by FOX) and also by Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA), no investigations are likely given the current political environment. However, if the Republicans were to take control of the Congress in November… Who knows?

Miss as Good as a Mile

16 March 2010

Discussing to the above billboard (that started things) and the new mystery Reagan billboard, I said that “We’ll know Obama’s really hit the skids when ‘Miss me yet’ billboards with Jimmy Carter’s face show up.”

“Shocking News!”

16 March 2010

Bloomberg – U.S. employers won’t hire enough workers this year to lower the jobless rate much below the level of 9.7 percent reached in February, three Obama administration economic officials said today. The proportion of Americans who can’t find work is likely to “remain elevated for an extended period,” Treasury Secretary Timothy F. Geithner, White House budget director Peter Orszag and Christina Romer, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, said in a joint statement. The officials said unemployment may even rise “slightly” over the next few months as discouraged workers start job-hunting again. “We do not expect further declines in unemployment this year,” the officials said in testimony prepared for the House Appropriations Committee.

That’s a hell of a statement to be making in March. Maybe the Administration ought to try, just for variety, to push some measures that will help people find jobs (or just get the government the hell out of the way!) instead of pushing one job-killing bill after another (the health scare bill, of course, being one of the biggest killers of jobs – and people – of all). And yet, even though the administration is coming right out and saying this, why do I suspect that the media will continue to be “surprised”, each and every single month, to see unemployment continue to rise just as it has done month after month beforehand? Any Way You Slice It

16 March 2010

According to Politico (H/T: JCM) the poor staffers are upset at the quality of food in the House cafeteria.

Staffers are so unhappy with the “value meal” offerings at House cafeterias that lawmakers spent much of a hearing last week grilling the House’s chief administrative officer about them.

My, there’s a productive use of Congress’ time! Good thing they don’t have anything more important on their plates right now! But seriously, another section of the story leapt out at me:

The value meals – five bucks and change for a meal and a drink – are supposed to appeal to lower-paid Hill staffers who can’t afford to pop for more expensive lunches, such as sandwiches that go for nearly $8 a la carte. But staffers complain that there’s not enough variety in the value meals – and that the quality is less than they’d get at the same price from a fast-food chain.

Really? You can get better products for less money in the private sector than you can from the government? Sounds like a teachable moment here! Unfortunately, I’ll bet that this light bulb didn’t go on over a single representative’s head.

Don’t Throw Me Into That Briar Patch!

16 March 2010 – Barack Obama has said he will not campaign for any Democratic congressmen who fails to support health care reform. Mr. Obama’s threat came as the year-long debate over his signature domestic policy entered its final week.

“Final week”? The Democratic whip says that the “House’s healthcare vote could be delayed until as late as Easter.” Easter … Is that a desperate attempt to resurrect the bill? Are the Democrats confusing their messiahs again?

In any event, I fail to see how Obama’s threat is likely to gain more “Yes” votes for the bill’s passage, assuming they bother to hold a vote at all. Obama is the toxic kiss of death for Chicago’s Olympic hopes, the Copenhagen summit, the Democratic gubernatorial candidates for New Jersey and Virginia, Martha Coakley running for Ted Kennedy’s the people’s Senate seat in Massachusetts, and so forth. Any Democrat whose seat is up for grabs (which, after Scott Brown’s victory, is almost all of them) in 2010 will do well to run as fast and as far from Barack Hussein Obama as their slimy, corrupt, chubby little legs can carry them. Who knows? Some of them who want to keep their jobs (and the endless perks, including the quality health care that they mean to deny the rest of us) may just vote “No” to guarantee Obama’s absence in their districts between now and November. If Obama were really as clever as the media (without any supporting evidence) claim he is, he would be promising to campaign for the people who vote against the bill. That would put the fear of God whatever Democrats believe in into them!
